Simple Knit Inifinity Scarf DIY

Fine and Feathered Fall Crafts

I love having a mom who is a great knitter. I see something knitted-looking on pinterest and I’m automatically texting her to try to get her to make it for me! I’m kind of obsessed with infinity scarves, and would love to have one in every color. A month or two ago I asked my mom to whip me up a nice long one and within a few days she handed me one she had just made up herself!

Since she was knitting up another one for one of my sisters, I asked her to share her little pattern here on the blog! She said it’s perfect for beginer knitters since you only need to know how to knit and purl. It also uses a super bulky yarn, so it’s very forgiving and knits up fast too.

What you’ll need // 3 skeins of any super bulky “6” yarn (she used Lion Brand Hometown USA yarn – the color on the needles is Dallas Gray, and my scarf is in El Paso Autumn) + a pair of size 13 knitting needles (they do not have to be circulars like hers are)

Start by casting on 15 stitches. If you are more experienced, you can do the provisional cast on. If you need some help you can check out this helpful video.

The pattern consists of two rows as follows:

Row1: knit all stitches

Row2: purl 1, knit 2, then repeat until the end of the row

Simple isn’t it? Just repeat these 2 rows until you end with row 2 and still have at least 18 inches of yarn to weave the ends together. At this point you can simply sew the two ends together. You can try an invisible seam too (here’s another helpful video)

This scarf is about 6 inches wide which is great because it’s not overly large. If you would like something larger just add stitches in multiples of 3 to keep with the purl 1, knit 2 pattern.

Here’s a close-up of how the pattern will come out looking…

PS. How gorgeous is my mom’s cape? She made it herself! Secret’s out – now you all know where I get my DIY genes from:)

  1. Thanks for the tutorial! The scarf is perfect for the chilly nights. Also, I do love your mom’s cape and can’t believe she made it! I was about to ask where she got it from until I read your last statement. Awesome!

Thanks for the turtoria, & the pattern links. I purchased one you had worn on the blog awhile back from etsy. I can’t wait to start one of my own, the rust color you chose looks great w/your coloring. Your mom + her cape are gorgeous!!! And I love, love, her boots! Awesome! Thanks.

  3. Ah, I love a good chunky knit scarf. I’m better at crochet, but would really love to re-learn knitting. I’m so obsessed with the color of your scarf that I think this might make a great project! ๐Ÿ™‚

Can this be whipped up on smaller needles, 11″ maybe? I’ve always used 7-8″ & just got 2 new pairs of circulars, 10″ & 11″, but am having trouble getting the hang of & liking the look of my stitches when using the 11″ so I’m nervous that any larger would send me over the edge, hehehe. Thanks for giving confidence to a novice knitter only good at scarves & washcloths currently :)!

I’m sure it could be, you just may want to add more stitches to each row. It will be a little different look, but I’d love to see how it comes out for you!

  7. Very pretty fall outfit (as usual) and the scarf matches perfectly. I know how to knit but it takes so long to make anything! I never thought of using bulk yarn though, I’ll have to give this one a try.P.s. Can I borrow your Mom? I have lots of knitting projects I want someone to make for me too. ๐Ÿ˜‰
