Hey, guess what, I’ve accidentally taken way too long of a break from blogging. One I definitely didn’t intent to take, and to be honest, I do mostly have some pretty darn good excuses. It’s easy to let things like blogging fall to the wayside when things go hectic. I mean, I’m not some mega blogger, so people aren’t typically (or ever) knocking down my door when I don’t blog for a week or two, making it even easer to keep saying “oh yeah, I’ll do that tomorrow”.
So what’s been distracting me? A nasty cold that kept coming back with a vengeance, spending 11 days in California (part of which I was still sick for), and preparing to transition to a new job (more talk on that another day). Sure, it’s been a little extra crazy lately, and the once a year or so I get sick it especially throws me off, but excuses be damned. I’m not beating myself up about it, but am trying to climb back up on the horse and am been brutally reminded how hard it can be to find your rhythm after a long break,.
Taking a few days off, especially when your physically sick, is important, but letting that drag on for a week or two can turn habits that usually flow so easily into giant mountains determined to break your spirit when you try to get back into them. I love writing, and I love using this blog as a place to practice and improve. When I’m writing every day I find it flows without much thought, but after almost two weeks it felt foreign to sit down and try to write, overwhelmed by the nagging thought “but what would I even say?”
I’ve talked about giving yourself space to to breaks before, but the importance of setting boundaries with those breaks, and I clearly need to remind myself of that whenever I find these situations creeping in. There’s a line between giving yourself some much needed rest and completely interrupting your flow. Looking forward to the new year that seems to be approaching terrifyingly fast I’m already thinking of things I want to focus on improving and building that resilience and practicing balance in these crazy life moments is currently at the top of my list.
