How to Style a Picture Ledge for the Holidays
How to style a picture ledge for the Holidays.
Our house is kind of crazy right now with the kitchen renovations. Basically the entire downstairs is a disaster zone, but I’ve still been itching to decorate for Christmas this year! You may remember that I put up these Ikea picture ledge shelves in my office, and I thought they’d be such a fun spot to decorate for the holidays!

Dress it up with garlands!
Picture ledges are the perfect place to hang fun garlands. I made both of these garlands one afternoon for some quick, inexpensive, and fun decoration. Drape your garlands from one edge to the other to expand your styling space beyond what you can fit directly on the shelves!
Vary sizes and textures.
I love bottlebrush trees because they come in so many different sizes and colors! Perfect for mixing and matching to add interest to the shelves. You can also mix in different knick knacks like small metal or ceramic houses for a different texture. Whatever decorations you end up using, having a mixture of sizes, colors and textures can help add depth and interest to your shelves.
Change up your Art
I mean, they are picture ledges for a reason right? What’s the fun without a little art! I decided to work with what’s already on my shelves, since my art is fairly neutral anyway and mixed well with my neutral holiday decor, but I’ve also been wanting to print out some fun holiday themed art to mix in. Etsy is my favorite spot to buy digital downloadable art you can print right at home. It makes it so easy to change up your art without spending a fortune, and gives you that quick satisfaction of a whole new feel in a flash!

Above all else, have fun! The best part about decorating for the holidays is that is can be uniquely your own whether you love color, or prefer neutrals, opt for fresh or faux, or go all out or keep it simple. While we don’t know what the next year will bring us, we can all choose to enjoy what we have right now and make the best of it!
