Small House Christmas Decorating Tips
Since our house is in full construction mode I wanted to share some of the small house Christmas decorating tips I’ve been using to add holiday cheer to the space I do have to work with!
If you can’t fit a tree but don’t want to miss out on the fun of decorating for the season try some of these!

Use the Space You’ve got
Add a little Christmas decor to your bedside tables, walls, and even bedroom doors! I foraged this branch from our yard and hung it with just a few clear tacks. Then I added these simple stockings over the guest room bed.
In the master bedroom I added some greenery around my mirror and decorated our dresser top. Even if you don’t have a ton of space, you can make the most of the space you’ve got!
For larger flat surfaces like dresser tops I like to use stacked books to create varying height. This keeps everything from feeling like it’s all at the same level, which can feel a little flat and boring.
Incorporate Natural Elements
I made this little arrangement for the guest room with some clippings from spruce trees and holly bushes from woods nearby. It was free, simple, and added that bit of natural cheer I was missing from not getting a live tree this year. If you don’t have a place you can forage natural elements from, you can usually pick up some clippings from local nurseries for fairly cheap!
You Don’t Have to Overspend
You don’t need to spend a ton on decor just for the Holidays. Most of my bottlebrush trees and metal houses came from the Target “Spot”. Foraged greenery is a great way to add in natural elements for free, and a strand or two of fairly lights can add a lot of magic with just a few dollars. For our dresser I put our fairy lights in an oversized mason jar we already had for a little extra glow. You can also DIY a lot of decor for fairly cheap. I made the beaded wood garland from this pack of beads I got off amazon (and I still have more beads leftover!).
Mix Elements
Mixing textures and finishes like glittery bottlebrush trees and natural wood beads creates some easy interest. To keep things from feeling too crazy, stick with a color pallet. Personally I like to stay with mostly neutrals with small pops of red here and there. Having a color pallet means you can mix and match other elements easier without worrying about things getting nuts.
