When you’re renovating an old home, you often find that all of the projects bleed into each other in one way or another. We’ve been in the midst of a full-gut renovation of our full bathroom, which recently resulted in a hole in our dining room ceiling. Of course, that meant clearing out the dining room, as well as a weeks worth of patching and repainting. In the end, it seemed like the perfect time to give our dining room a little refresh.

A Splash of Color

It’s easy to get carried away and let a simple refresh turn into a weeks-long room makeover, so I tried to keep myself in check. While it was (and always is!) tempting to repaint the entire room, that can quickly get out of hand and waste loads of time, so I decided to only allow myself one small paint project – the french doors.
I have been wanting to add some color to these doors since we first renovated this space, but I could never settle on a color. Nothing felt quite right. Recently I picked up a quart of Saybrook Sage by Benjamin Moore for a completely different project, but realized it may be the perfect color for our doors. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but once I started putting the rest of the room back together, I fell in love! it adds just the right touch of color and whimsey without overwhelming the space.
A New Rug

A simple, but much needed change, was the rug. Our dining room is a high traffic area in our home, and inevitably the old rugs were showing their use. I wanted something a little brighter than our old rugs, but also something that could withstand that daily wear and tear. I went with the Ryan Medallion Spillproof Washable Rug and I’ve already seen it stand up well to our constant abuse! I also love the vintage-style pattern so it feels right at home in our old house.
Greenery All around

It is springtime after all, and the blooming trees and wild daffodils were just calling to me. I couldn’t resist bringing a little nature inside. I trimmed a few branches from trees (bradford pear, forcynthia, and a few other local blooms I came across!) and used one of my diy flower frogs to put together an arrangement. I love a little of that spring goodness inside, especially on the rainy days.

Even though a dining room refresh wasn’t at the top of my priority list, I’m definitely not mad to have had the excuse to give it a little spruce up! Make sure to check out my full youtube video of the process.
