The Tortured Poets Department Cookies

What do you do when you’re down bad waiting for the new album? You swiftly make some TTPD for the album release party! At least that’s what I did. If you’re looking to make some themed cookies for your next Taylor Swift themed party, here’s what I made for The Tortured Poets Department album release.

Albatrosses, bolters, black dogs and more – oh my! I’m still a newbie to cookie decorating, and am certainly no pro, but I had such a fun time getting creative with these! If you’re looking to brush up on the alchemy of cookie decorating, I highly recommend this video from Little Cookie Co. (as well as all of their instructional videos!). Since this album was more mono-chromatic I stuck with black, white, and grey icing colors.

You can find all of the cookie cutters I used here:

For the rest of the cookies I used small circles as well as a large heart cookie cutter I had leftover from Valentines day cookies.

Tips for Making Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

This recipe from Sally’s Baking addiction is my favorite recipe for cut-out sugar cookies. It’s simple, but very delicious. The biggest tip I have when it comes to making cut-out sugar cookies and ensuring they keep their shape is one word: Freezer! Keeping the dough super cold is the best thing you can do. When I am cutting out the cookies and I start to feel the dough getting squishy I stick it back in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes to stiffen up. Once the shapes are cut out I keep the cookies in the freezer right up until they’re ready to go in the oven.

I have quite a few friends and family that are gluten-free, so having those options are always a priority when I can. I tried out this recipe from Fed and Fit and everyone loved them! I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a good GF Cut Out Sugar Cookie. And the same tip applies here – make sure you keep the dough super cold!
